About Gesture Synth School

Gesture Synth School is a free, independent practice companion for Gesture Synth — the webcam instrument that turns your hands into a chord machine.

What this site does

Gesture Synth maps hand gestures to music: your left hand picks a scale degree and a major or minor key, your right hand shapes the chord quality and octave. It is magical the first time the song rings out — and it is hard to know where to start.

This site fills that gap. The songbook turns popular songs into chord charts written in gesture language, and the play-along player scores your hands against each target shape with a backing pad and metronome. Thehow to play guide andchord reference document every gesture against the open-source engine, and the Gesture Synth Weld guide covers the popular web version of the instrument.

Why it exists

Gesture Synth went viral on short video, and thousands of people are learning it from clips — but clips move fast and practice needs structure. We built the songbook as a place to slow down: pick a song, learn the shapes, and build the muscle memory one chord at a time.

Privacy

The practice tools run entirely in your browser. Your webcam is never uploaded or stored by us — hand tracking happens locally on your device. For the full details, see the privacy policy.
